School Yard Tales: Miss Popcorn Goat Had Her Last Rose

Miss Popcorn goat loved living at Tree Lane School.  She watched the children play at recess.  Sometimes she wanted to join in the fun.

So she kept practicing till she learned to jump the fence.  One day she did it!  She looked so proud of herself.  The children weren’t out for recess yet, so she went straight for the pretty roses in the flower bed. That silly goat grabbed the whole rose, thorns and all!

Students spotted her through the windows and they were shocked that she could almost swallow them whole.  Later they took turns touching her tongue while the teacher gently held her mouth open. Then they understood how her sandpaper type mouth was not hurt by gobbling the stickers with the roses.

Several other times that year she got out of the fence to pick a bouquet of flowers for a tasty snack topped off with nibbling the stickers for dessert!  Finally, Handyman Hank came and put cement way down under her fence to make the fence stronger. That would surely keep her in her home. When people see the sign “Goatrun Texas, Population 1” they expect to see Miss Popcorn Goat!.

From then on, the students picked her bouquets at recess and took them to her so they could watch her gobble them down eagerly.  But instead of flowers, they usually gave her what she really wanted – bunches of stickers.

The children thought it made perfect sense.  They got stickers for their schoolwork, and so did Miss Popcorn goat!

Make peace with the stickers that come with life’s roses:-)
